Gajeel Redfox Respect Thread

Updated: Sep 11, 2019

"In my Phantom Lord days, maybe I would've given up already, but unfortunately, I'm a Fairy Tail wizard now. Even if you beat me up now, my heart won't break that easily!"

Gajeel is a character from the manga and anime Fairy Tail. He was born 400 years before the start of the story and was sent to the future to assist in the defeat of Acnologia, a human Dragon Slayer who was taken over by the Dragon Seed and turned into a dragon who hunted down and killed all of the dragons of the day. He was originally part of the guild Phantom Lord, one of Fairy Tail's rivals, and helped to start a war against them in order to capture Lucy Heartphilia and return her for the reward her father set up for her. After Phantom's defeat at the hands of Fairy Tail, Gajeel was approached by their Master and asked to join the guild, and odd request since he was the catalyst that started the war. Gajeel joined on the premise of wanting work but soon began to care for his fellow guildmates and even one in particular, Levy McGarden. Gajeel is now one of the strongest members of Fairy Tail and holds their values and companionship at the levels of anyone else.

Here's Gajeel info card - here.

This Respect Thread will be divided into and cover the following sections:

  • Magic

  • Strength

  • Speed

  • Durability/Endurance

Feats will be drawn from the main Fairy Tail manga, as well as its sequel Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest and the side story Fairy Tail Gaiden - Rhodonite.

Magic

Iron Dragon Slayer Magic

(Ch. 01) Dragon Slayer magic is a form of magic that allows the user to take on the attributes of a dragon and was developed as a way to fight against Dragons in the past:

(Ch. 01) We get our first look at what Dragon Slayer magic is in the Fairy Tail verse when Natsu Dragneel is attacked by a mage masquerading as "Salamander". The impostor fires off a fire spell at Natsu which Natsu eats, and Happy informs Lucy Heartphilia that fire won't work on Natsu (since he's a Fire Dragon Slayer) as we see him eating the flames as he would do regular food and gaining power from it:

(Ch. 47) As an Iron Dragon Slayer, Gajeel eats anything made of iron just as Natsu eats fire:

(Ch. 47) Gajeel was able to severely damage the Fairy Tail Guild hall by creating huge iron poles he either shot out through the building or threw into it:

As an Iron Dragon Slayer, Gajeel can make his limbs into different iron items, such as:

(Ch. 49) Gajeel is able to shoot out multiple iron clubs from his leg after Elfman Strauss caught his attack, sending out an attack indiscriminately in nearly all directions despite being in a disadvantageous position:

(Ch. 61) Gajeel switches up and changes his Iron Dragon Club into his Iron Dragon Sword once Natsu grabbed onto and held the club, which sliced Natsu's side and caused him pain. Natsu previously has stopped Erigor's scythe with his forearm and ran into Erigor's Wind Wall over and over again without receiving scratches as bad as Erza did just by putting her hand in there:

(Ch. 61) Gajeel can coat himself in steel scales that greatly increase his attack and defense power, allowing Gajeel to overpower Natsu's block, completely tank Natsu's punch while hurting Natsu in the process and allowing him to send out strong gale-like winds that are capable of slicing the ground from a missed kick:

(Ch. 62) Gajeel's Iron Dragon Lance: Demon Legs is a spell that allows Gajeel to shoot out his Iron Dragon Lance at high speed in different directions:

(Ch. 124) Gajeel's Iron Dragon Lance allows him to form, in this instance, his arm into a bladed lance and then stabs it repeatedly at Laxus at FTE speeds:

(Ch. 181) Gajeel is able to extend the different weapons he makes with his Dragon Slayer armor, using his Iron Dragon Sword to attack Panther Lily up in the sky:

(Ch. 210) Gajeel is able to block a sword attack on his forearm thanks to Iron Dragon Slayer magic:

(Ch. 387) While Natsu Dragneel, Lucy Heartphilia, and Juvia Lockser are all picked up and thrown around by Tempester using tornado magic, Gajeel stays rooted to the ground thanks to making himself coated in iron:

(Ch. 397) Gajeel is able to absorb the carbon in Torafuzar's poison water and combine it with his iron body to make steel scales strong enough to overpower and break through Torafuzar's steel scale defense, the same one that had just no-sold Gajeel's normal iron scales:

(Ch. 487) Gajeel is able to ingest anti-magic particles and use the trace amounts of iron in them to power himself up and create a Black Iron Mode:

(Ch. 487) Gajeel's Black Iron Mode allows him to physically hit Bloodman when before, Blodman's anti-magic particle body made Gajeel's attacks pass harmlessly through him:

Iron God Sword

Iron God Sword is an Ultimate Dragon Slayer technique where Gajeel claps his hands together to create a massive Iron Dragon Sword that he then brings down on his enemies. Here's the technique in the anime for a better visual representation.

(Ch. 212) Gajeel uses this technique to defeat Yomazu:

(Ch. 485) Gajeel uses Iron God Sword to try and take out numerous Alvarez soldiers at once before his group could be overwhelmed:

Dragon Roar

Dragon Roar is one of the main spells a Dragon Slayer knows and consists of firing off a beam of energy based on your specific ability, often at powerful levels.

(Ch. 61) Gajeel's Dragon Roar overpowers Natsu Dragneel's Dragon Roar and sends Natsu through at least one wall and room. Since Gajeel is an Iron Dragon Slayer, there are pieces of metal in his roar that tear up and stab Natsu. This was done while Gajeel and Natsu were testing each other's power, suggesting this isn't the limit for his strength:

(Ch. 186) Gajeel's Dragon Roar does significant damage to the large lacrima floating island:

(Ch. 194) The combined Dragon Roar's from a weakened Gajeel, Natsu Dragneel, and Wendy Marvel create a mountain sized explosion:

(Ch. 295) A point-blank Roar from Gajeel sends Sting Eucliffe flying towards the ground strong enough to create a crater:

(Ch. 319) Gajeel hits Rogue with an Iron Shadow Dragon Roar that can be seen throughout all of the city and strong enough to push Gajeel into the ground and nearly crater it. Here it is in the anime for a better visual representation:

Shadow Dragon Slayer Magic

(Ch. 318) Upset that Natsu Dragneel was able to eat lightning magic and gain a lightning-flame hybrid magic mode, Gajeel eats Rogue Cheney's Shadow Dragon Slayer magic and combines it with his Iron Dragon Slayer magic, allowing him to use an Iron Shadow Dragon form:

(Ch. 319) In this form, Gajeel can become a shadow to prevent physical strikes, allowing Rogue's arm to pass right through him without any injury. Gajeel then travels behind Rogue to strike him in his blind spot:

(Ch. 319) Gajeel enters the shadows to chase Rogue as he tries to flee and then pulls Rogue himself out of the shadows:

(Ch. 396) Gajeel is able to use his shadows to move faster than Torafuzar underwater even though Torafuzar is an Etherious suited for water combat:

Enhanced Senses

(Ch. 59) As a Dragon Slayer, Gajeel has an enhanced sense of smell. With it, he was able to sniff out Lucy Heartphilia's location in Fairy Tail's secret warehouse during the fight between Fairy Tail and Phantom Lord:

(Ch. 60) Gajeel knew that Natsu Dragneel was below him thanks to his sense of smell:

(Ch. 390) Gajeel was able to smell that Sting and Rogue had arrived at the battlfield:

(Ch. 458) Gajeel is confident that himself and other Dragon Slayers would be able to find their enemies by smell in a strong sandstorm:

(Gaiden Ch. 10) Gajeel is able to pinpoint Vodka Killer's location with his Dragon Slayer nose through fog that was limiting his vision and dulling his senses:

m

Strength

(Ch. 49) Gajeel easily blocks a punch from Elfman Strauss with an iron club arm. Elfman is strong enough to throw a frozen man off into the distance:

(Ch. 61) Gajeel severely damages the ground by hitting it with his Iron Dragon Club:

(Ch. 61) Gajeel creates a gale force like wind that slices up the ground by kicking at Natsu and missing. This was done while Gajeel and Natsu were testing each other's power, suggesting this isn't the limit for his strength:

(Ch. 62) Gajeel and Natsu clash punches once serious and create a room-wide shockwave that knocks down bystanders watching the fight:

(Ch. 62) Gajeel swings Natsu by his leg over his head and slams him into a wall:

(Ch. 186) Gajeel is able to block Panther Lily's sword Bustermarm on his forearms:

(Ch. 186) Gajeel breaks Panther Lily's Bustermarm sword after blocking an overhand slash:

(Ch. 190) Gajeel is able to move the large armored dragon Droma Anim with a punch:

(Ch. 194) Severely weakened and low on magical power, Gajeel is still able to keep Droma Anim pinned to the ground by stabbing through its foot with his Iron Dragon Club:

(Ch. 212) Gajeel breaks Yomazu's sword that was just stabbed through his arm:

(Ch. 294) Gajeel blocks Rogue Cheney's Shadow Dragon Slash with an Iron Dragon Sword and then sends Rogue flying away with a backhand:

(Ch. 319) Gajeel throws Rogue through a stone floor/ceiling and then through another stone wall:

(Ch. 386) Gajeel sends Torafuzar flying away with an elbow:

(Ch. 396/397) Gajeel sends Torafuzar flying with a punch in order to save Levy McGarden:

(Ch. 397) After he gets some air from Levy McGarden, Gajeel starts to overpower Etherious form Torafuzar:

(Gaiden Ch. 8) Gajeel catches Mash's sword in his mouth and is able to keep it steady enough that it breaks when he punches Mash:

(100 Yr Quest Ch. 30) Gajeel punches Natsu Dragneel and even though it's blocked, he still pushes Natsu into the ground and damages it:

(100 Yr Quest Ch. 31) Gajeel blocks Natsu Dragneel's fire boosted punches and even though he's forced back onto one foot, he transitions to an Iron Dragon Sword for his other leg and sends a shockwave out from his kick that cuts down at least 20 trees:

(100 Yr Quest Ch. 31) Gajeel headbutts Natsu Dragneel into the ground hard enough to crater it

Speed

(Ch. 62) Gajeel exchanges multiple punches with Natsu fast enough to create several images of his arms at the same time:

(Ch. 105) Gajeel is able to intercept a lightning attack from Laxus Dreyar that was aimed at Levy Mcgarden despite Gajeel being on the ground in front of Laxus and needing to travel behind him after the attack was fired and before the attack could hit Levy:

(Ch. 123) Gajeel is able to save Natsu from Laxus Dreyar's Raging Bolt attack, a powerful lightning bolt he summoned from the sky:

(Ch. 210) Gajeel is able to intercept Yomazu's attack on Levy McGarden:

(Ch. 211) Even with a spell going on that was making it impossible for Gajeel to even hear Levy McGarden screaming right behind him, Gajeel is able to dodge a few of Yomazu's sword strikes:

(Ch. 294) During the Grand Magic Games 2v2 battles Gajeel and Natsu are matched up against Sabertooth's Twin Dragon Slayers Sting Eucliffe and Rogue Cheney. Gajeel immediately blitzes Rogue at the start of the fight while Natsu blitzes Sting:

(Ch. 294) Gajeel dodges Sting Eucliffe's Dragon Roar as he drags it around the battlefield and then is able to react and block Rogue Cheney's Shadow Dragon Slash attack:

(Ch. 294) During their 2v2 fight, Sting and Rogue activated their White Drive and Shadow Drive forms, a form of magic that increases their strength. This allowed Rogue to combat Gajeel easier and get a few hits in like a kick, an elbow, and consecutive strikes that tore off his headband. Despite this, Gajeel is able to still prove superior and stop one of Rogue's attacks without looking at him:

(Ch. 395) Gajeel's Iron Shadow Dragon Mode completely overwhelms Torafuzar's Etherious form and doesn't give him a chance to respond:

(Ch. 396) Gajeel's Iron Shadow Dragon Mode is able to outpace Ehterious form Torafuzar underwater in order to save Levy McGarden even though Torafuzar was between Gajeel and Levy:

(Gaiden Ch. 14) Gajeel helps blitz a man before he can fire his gun:

(Ch. 456) Gajeel is able to notice and dodge Kareem's surprise attack:

(Ch. 486) Gajeel dodges an attack from Spriggan 12 member Bloodman:

(100 Yr Quest Ch. 31) Gajeel uses his shadow magic to enter the shadows and hit Natsu Dragneel twice before he could react:

Durability/Endurance

(Ch. 49) Gajeel is punched by Natsu Dragneel and sent across the room only to retaliate right afterwards:

(Ch. 49) Gajeel is punched away again by Natsu but mocks the Fairy Tail wizard, asking him if that's all he has:

(Ch. 60/61) Gajeel is clobbered repeatedly by an enraged Natsu Dragneel without any lasting effects:

(Ch. 61) Gajeel takes a Fire Dragon's Talon attack from Natsu Dragneel without budging from his spot:

(Ch. 62) Gajeel takes repeated punishment from a serious Natsu Dragneel:

(Ch. 63) After Natsu eats some flames and recovers his magical power, he thrashes Gajeel until the building they are in collapses. Gajeel survives the attacks and is seen awake and talking to Natsu not ten minutes later (in the time it took Makarov to beat Master Jose):

(Ch. 105) Gajeel allows himself to get repeatedly beaten on by Jet and Droy as a way to make amends for what he did to them and Levy during the Phantom vs Fairy Tail war:

(Ch. 105) Gajeel is attacked again and again by Laxus Dreyar's lightning attacks and still doesn't attempt to protect himself in any way. He is then able to jump in front of Levy McGarden to intercept an attack by Laxus despite being on the ground and kicked right beforehand:

(Ch. 124) Gajeel is blasted by many of Laxus's Lightning Ball attacks:

(Ch. 124) Gajeel survives being hit by Laxus Dreyar's Dragon Roar, which carves through a large portion of the Kardia Cathedral floor:

(Ch. 187) Gajeel trades blows with Panther Lily:

(Ch. 191) Gajeel is smacked away by Droma Anim's tail:

(Ch. 194) Gajeel is able to shrug off being at the center of an explosion from Droma Anim's laser breath:

(Ch. 194) Gajeel is at ground zero of Droma Anim's Diffusion Cannon attack while at nearly zero magic but would find the willpower to scrounge up a little more magic power and keep the Armored Dragon pinned to the ground:

(Ch. 211) Gajeel is able to endure being sliced by Yomazu's Zan slash on his forearms, which had just cut through at least three small trees and had shown to chip and cut his iron scales, a stab through the hip, and then survive an even stronger slash called Narukami across his body. He is then seen telling Levy to warn the other members of Fairy Tail as he attacks Yomazu to buy her time:

(Ch. 212) Gajeel is bombarded by Kowazu's egg bomb Heavy Egg Rain attack, blocks Yomazu's sword strikes, and then allows himself to be stabbed through his arm by Yomazu in order to grab onto the sword and prevent him from moving:

(Ch. 295) Gajeel is smacked by Sting Eucliffe using Dragon Force and then is fine after Sting destroys the stadium floor with one of his Dragon Roars:

(Ch. 487) Gajeel is able to block Bloodman's Tenga Goken Onimaru attack on his forearms, even though Ezel (the Demon who used the Curse previously) has been able to cut through stone, towns, tree trunks, and more:

(Ch. 487) Gajeel is caught by Bloodman's Third Seal Over Skelter, a move that was said to close those captured in it off from the living world forever, but is still able to pull himself and Levy McGarden from the technique:

(Ch. 487) Gajeel keeps going after being stabbed through the side by Bloodman's Thorn Curse:

(Ch. 487) Gajeel is then stabbed through the chest and chooses to inhale Bloodman's anti-magical particles and eat the trace amounts of iron in them to power himself up:

Thanks man. I miss the look of the side-by-side images but this does look a little more organized and concise, not gonna lie. Might need to fix some of the images in Imgur, looks like some scans were flipped around.
